The victim’s family approached DSP Taunsa and Tehsil Headquarter Hospital. However, no one listened to their plight. Later, the police lodged a case but failed to arrest the culprits behind this heinous crime.

In the first information report (FIR), registered with the Raitra Police Station, the mother of two said the suspects scaled the wall of her house at 10:45 pm. Meanwhile, her children — two-year-old son and six-month-old daughter were asleep. Moreover, the suspects took her forcibly to a room of her house and raped her there.

Investigation into the case

Taunsa is the hometown of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar. He has taken notice of the incident of the alleged rape of a woman in the Taunsa Sharif area.

Buzdar has also directed the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ghazi Khan to furnish the report of the horrendous crime and arrest the culprits. The chief minister has assured the victim and the family of speedy justice in the matter.

In addition to this, the victim woman has been sent to Tehsil Headquarter hospital for her medico-legal. In the meantime, the police have begun the chase for the suspects.

As directed by the Chief Minister, the RPO appointed the SP investigation to head an inquiry into the incident. However, the police again showed a lethargic and insensitive approach. The case was registered and medical conducted 24 hours after the gang-rape.

It is to be noted that the test had been conducted after the victim’s family staged a protest. Even though the victim managed to identify her rapists, the two accused- Fayyaz Hussain and Elahi Bakhsh – the police have not arrested them yet.

According to the father of the victim, no one seems to pay heed to him for being a poor laborer as he demanded immediate arrest of the accused and swift justice for her daughter. However, it turns out that the accused got bail even before the arrest.

This is the fifth rape in the last 72 hours. Earlier this week another woman, mother of two, was attacked by two identified assailants as she was stranded on the Lahore Motorway link road. The assailants, finding her vulnerable, broke the glass window of her car and took her to nearby fields and gang-raped her in front of her children.

Pakistan has not done enough to stem violence against women, including ensuring perpetrators are held accountable. Outrage has continued to grow in Pakistan over the Lahore motorway incident, with protesters taking to the streets and demanding justice.
