ACC chose 50 over because teams need to practice for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in October right after this tournament.

As per the proposal, the tournament will be hosted via a hybrid model, with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine in Sri Lanka.

Here’s the complete Hybrid Model matches layout:

Pakistan vs Nepal
Bangladesh vs Afghanistan
Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh

All of these matches will be held at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. Recently things got out of hand when the news regarding Asia Cup circulated that Asia Cup preparation had begun without Pakistan.

“The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka. The 2023 Edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final,” the Asian Cricket Council said in a statement.

BCCI first agreed to visit Pakistan for the event, but later took a U-turn and refused to visit Pakistan. To keep the Asia Cup hopes, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi tried everything to negotiate with BCCi and introduced a hybrid model.

BCCI even rejected the hybrid model and then ICC convinced the Indian cricket board in the end. The rest is history for now.
