It was a wholesome sight for social media users when they spotted cricketer Mohammad Rizwan carrying around a large, fluffy pillow at the airports. Memes flooded on our timelines, with everyone wondering why the cricketer carried the pillow around and now we finally know why.

While traveling in the past week, Rizwan carried a pillow at airports, pictures of which were widely shared online. Many fawned over his during love for his fluffy companion.

Here are some memes in case you missed them:

Thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), now we know why he was cuddling it with it. The PCB recently posted an interview of Rizwan on social media in which the cricketer answered the internet’s burning question about his pillow.

Turns out the reason addresses a health-related issue for the cricketer. “This is a medicated pillow,” he said in the video. “Keepers usually always face some neck-related troubles.”

“We have to wear a helmet when we are jumping up and down to wicket keep, we wear it while fielding and batting,” he added. “The neck gets really stiff because of this. People recommended me a medicated pillow for this and this really brings me a lot of peace when I sleep at night.”

“As you know, sleep is a big part of the recovery process and that’s why I carry it around everywhere. People see me carrying it around because I do not want to chance missing it for even one night. If I can go through the trouble of carrying it around, using it regularly can help me speed up my recovery.”

Have a look at it

Pictures of Rizwan and his pillow are now a national treasure, and we are thankful to the PCB for letting us know why he is frequently pictured with one in hand. In this tournament, Rizwan proved to be a key member of the Pakistan cricket team and he gave everything he had. He even played on the semi-final Pakistan versus Australia match after being in the ICU.

He was hailed as a ‘warrior’ after it emerged that he scored 67 in the T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia despite spending two days in an intensive care unit because of a chest infection. Photos of Rizwan in a hospital bed also went viral on social media.
