To our dismay, our country seems to be going through a vicious cycle of sexual offenses. Yet another horrific gang-rape case emerged of an 18-year-old woman who was lured into a fake job offer and gang-raped. The soul-wrenching incident took place on the M-4 motorway in Gojra on Saturday.

According to the police, the suspects lured the young woman from Toba Tek Singh on the pretext of offering her a job at a boutique in Gojra. They reportedly raped her in a car on the motorway and fled after throwing her at the Faisalabad Interchange.

Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies reportedly took the suspects into custody on Thursday. The First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s paternal aunt stated that her 18-year-old niece received a message on a mobile phone for a job interview in the city.

Upon reaching there, the suspects put the young woman into a car and took her with them, and raped her on the motorway.

The police confirmed that the survivor has been given a medical exam and a DNA sample is being taken. Action has been initiated to arrest the other suspects, the police added. A spokesperson of the Punjab Police said that the main suspect is being interrogated. Moreover, a search is underway to find his accomplices.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Inspector-General Rao Sardar Ali have reportedly taken notice of the incident. The CM and IG have both asked for a report from the Faisalabad RPO and ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects and stern legal action against them.

The IG said that justice should be ensured for the victim on a priority basis.

Where is our country heading?

The instances of luring women with job offers, and sexually assaulting them have been soaring in the country.

In the garrison city last month, a woman was called from Lahore for a job interview. Under the guise of a job interview, she was allegedly raped while her husband and kids waited outside.

In a similar incident last year, a girl residing in Islamabad, went to a Karachi company in search of a job, at the request of her friend but got harassed and raped at gunpoint.

The accused later went to the police station along with her uncle went to file a case against the accused. However, the police refused to take further action after registering a case against the accused as he turned out to be influential.

Dear ladies, beware! We live in a country where nobody is safe. It is incumbent on us to protect ourselves because men can’t protect us from a system they created for their own protection.
