Nine seasons through and a promised 10th is a testimony to Coke Studio (CS) brand’s accumulating success. In a country holding a glorious Hard/Pop rock past and Bollywood-plagued present, CS came as a much-needed quake with promised aftershocks.
But they say variety is the spice of life. However, I call Noori-for-all way too spicy. Anyways, there are certain untouched territories Strings duo won’t mind exploring. In fact, such add-ons can help maintain Coke Studio’s talk-of-the-town status. Let’s say:

1. Live Dubstep

Dubstep music has emerged as a recent phenomenon. In fact, there’s hardly any mainstream Pop song now without a Dubstep bridge. But performing it live is a challenge and one possessing impetuous handling of Turntables, DJ gears, and in-depth syncopation knowledge can survive. Luckily, Pakistan – as we all know – is full of talent and the recent Electronic music frenzy won’t make it hard for team CS to get hold of the ‘right’ artist.

2. A Capella

Imagine, Pentatonix covering Ko Ko Korina …. Swayed? You better be. Something similar should be what CS 10 should strive for. Come on, go for it. Engage some more backing vocalists, set the rhythm, add a mega singing sensation and a masterpiece is sure to emerge.

3. Female Rapper

Sub-continent is in dire need of a full-time female rapper. Wait; did you just say, Hard Kaur? (facepalm). Surely, we’ve seen Bohemia making a fat knot spitting his popular Punjabi numbers. But, wait till you witness Meesha Shafi, Sara Haider or any other girl not afraid to lose herself on the mic.

4. More Unplugged Versions

Well, be it Fakhir’s musical prudence, Rahat Fateh Ali’s smart vocals or the adjacent charm; Afreen Afreen is no doubt a big hit and a commendable effort. More is needed and I am sure CS team must have already planned to incorporate some unplugged versions in season 10. Fingers crossed.

5. Strings Themselves

It’s about time for the maestros of Coke Studio to take the command on stage as well, no? It has really been a while hearing something from Pakistan’s longest surviving band. We are anxiously waiting for some real Strings action.
