10 Dead, 71 Injured in PTI Protest Clashes in Islamabad

Hospitals in Islamabad reported that 10 people were killed and 71 injured during clashes between security forces and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters. However, security sources have called these reports “false and fabricated.” They claim that some people on social media are spreading misinformation, blaming law enforcement for the deaths during the protest.

Security officials denied the use of firearms during the late-night operation by police and Rangers, calling the rumors baseless. They say these claims aim to hide other failures.

Hospital Details on Deaths and Injuries

Despite the denial, hospitals shared specific numbers. According to medical reports:

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS): Received seven bodies—four security officers and three civilians. They also treated 27 injured police officers and 14 civilians.

Poly Clinic: Confirmed three deaths and 28 civilian injuries.

CDA Hospital: Treated two injured civilians, including one with a gunshot wound and another hurt by tear gas.

PTI’s Response

PTI’s spokesperson accused security forces of using excessive force. They claimed unarmed protesters were attacked, causing many injuries. Following the clashes, PTI canceled its ongoing protest in Islamabad and announced they would decide on their next steps after consulting their leadership.

Government Actions

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised law enforcement for effectively handling the protest. Roads previously blocked due to the demonstrations have been reopened. Containers placed in sensitive areas, like the Red Zone, are being removed, and city workers are cleaning the streets.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon confirmed the cleanup efforts. “We are clearing roads and removing debris to ensure the city is back to normal by morning,” he said.

The protests left the streets scattered with abandoned items like shoes, clothes, and vehicles. While the city returns to calm, questions about the events and their aftermath remain.
